2623As shipped: 100 cards, 38 lands (27 basic), 27 creatures, average mana value 4.16. Mana sources: 26 blue, 23 red. No Game Changers and no mass land denial, so the deck sets no bracket floor. How brackets work →
Was Exquisite Invention worth buying?
Yes. The singles are worth more than the deck cost at release.
Exquisite Invention cost $39.99 at release. Its singles are worth $78.56 today. That is 1.96× what you paid, over the 8 years since it was released.
That is a return over time, not a judgment about the day it launched: the release price in that sentence is from release day and the singles value is from today. An older deck has had longer for its cards to move, which is why age is quoted alongside the multiple.
Card prices as of 2026-10-27. Release price: Wizards of the Coast, verified 2026-09-02.
Where the value sits
Unwinding Clock
Varchild, Betrayer of Kjeldor
Great Furnace
The single most valuable card in Exquisite Invention is Unwinding Clock, at $23.35 (30% of everything the deck is worth). The value is led by that card but not dominated by it.
Alongside it, $3.41 of the total sits in Varchild, Betrayer of Kjeldor and $2.81 in Great Furnace. Those three names are 38% of what Exquisite Invention is worth. That leaves the other 97 cards at $48.99 between them.
As of 2026-10-27, by singles value it is the 152nd most valuable of the 199 precon decks we price, and the most valuable of the 4 decks in Commander 2018.
This deck has been out of print for years, so shops no longer sell it at its release price. Whatever a sealed copy costs today has moved away from that figure (in one direction or the other), and the comparison above is about what the deck cost when it was on shelves, not what it costs now.
Values are TCGplayer market prices for the printings the box shipped, summed across the whole deck. Compare every precon →
